The International Center for Remote Sensing of Environment (ICRSE) champions the application of remote sensing technology to address environmental challenges.

At the heart of the Center's work is the International Symposium on Remote Sensing of Environment (ISRSE), which brings the remote sensing community together every two years at locations around the world.

Established to extend its engagement in remote sensing beyond the Symposium, ICRSE is hosted by the University of Southampton's School of Geography and Environmental Sciences and operates under the direction of its Board of Directors.

An international executive committee guides the ISRSE symposium series, drawing on the expertise of remote sensing specialists representing most of the world's national space agencies. To strengthen cooperation and coordination, the Center signed a Letter of Intent with the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) in 2000 and the ISPRS General Assembly formally established the executive committee as its International Committee on Remote Sensing of Environment (ICORSE). Today, ICORSE provides policy and programmatic guidance to ISRSE and serves as a standing advisory committee to the ISPRS Council.

Each ISRSE symposium is hosted by a national agency or organisation, with an Organising Committee and a Programme Committee supporting its delivery.

The International Committee on Remote Sensing of Environment (ICORSE) is a permanent Committee of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS).

It provides advise and support to both the biannual ISRSE and the Secretariat and is composed of representatives of national agencies from many of the world's space-faring nations.

ICORSE collaborates with ISPRS Commissions and entities to coordinate and enhance remote sensing activities by:

  • Coordinating the biennial symposium schedules;
  • Makes ISRSE proceedings available as part of The International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences (IAPRSSIS);
  • Encourages submission of worthy papers for publication in the ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing;
  • Proposes worthy candidates for recognition, awards and nominations to the ISPRS Editorial Review Board;
  • Provides advice to ISPRS Council on matters related to remote sensing of environment.

The International Center on Remote Sensing of Environment (ICRSE) was created in 1998. It is a non-profit that serves as the Secretariat of ICORSE to sustain and support each iteration of ISRSE. It functions both as the administrative home of ISRSE, and the vehicle by which individual ISRSE symposia are organized and planned with cooperating space agencies. The Secretariat has a Board of Directors that has management and fiducial oversight.

International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) is a non-governmental organization devoted to the development of international cooperation for the advancement of photogrammetry and remote sensing and their applications. The Society operates without any discrimination on grounds of race, religion, nationality, or political philosophy..
